At the Amsterdam art fair PAN, Lode Laperre’s work will be represented by two different galleries, each highlighting a distinct aspect of his visual language.
Crossover Gallery (The Hague, NL & Taipei, TW) presents paintings by Laperre in a setting alongside photographic images of desolate interiors, unusual or forgotten buildings, unsettling architectural constellations, a sense of slowed-down time and still life. Paintings with worked-over surfaces, weathered colours, and traces of interventions across layers and over time have been carefully selected from his oeuvre to reinforce the cohesion of the concept. As an exception, several works from private collection have been included to intensify the presentation and strengthen its connection to the theme.
At Galerie 10a (Otegem, BE), the emphasis is on a relatively recent development in Laperre’s work. Lately, he has noticed an urge to immediately counter a painting with a landscape-like quality by creating a rational, almost geometrically abstract work. The two images are closely matched and intrinsically connected. “It is as if I want to zoom in and zoom out at the same time,” he says. “Zooming in to the level of detail, pixels, molecular structures, pigments and elementary particles. And zooming out towards the whole: a bird’s-eye or spatial perspective, an image that surveys, maps and analyses.” Bringing together the ethereal and the transient, the cosmic and the earthly: this introduces a new dynamic into his meditative working process.
