"Quartet for the End of Time" (Messiaen) performed by Silakbo Quartet

‘SynAESTHETICS’ is a multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted collaboration between the musicians of Ensemble Silakbo - Edgar Gomes (PT), Angelina Gotcheva (BG), Bogdan Ivanov (BG) & Mikko Pablo (US) -, their composer-in-residence Adam Vincent Clarke (CA) and visual artist Lode Laperre (BE). It is a presentation of French composer Olivier Messiaen’s iconic work ‘Quartet for the End of Time’ alongside a newly composed piece, ‘Still Life’, by Canadian composer Adam Clarke. Furthermore, through the creation of eight works of art, one inspired by each movement of the ‘Quartet for the End of Time’, Belgian artist Lode Laperre explores the perceptual phenomenon of synesthesia, a condition which Messiaen is known to have had and which was one of the major influences in his music writing.
In addition to the ‘Messiaen-paintings’ that accompany the concert, recent work by Lode Laperre will be on display at an extra exhibition at the venue.
